Pearl Jam: Rock Band

PJ Pearl Jam: Rock Band

Pearl Jam has just announced that they too are jumping on the video game wagon by readying Pearl Jam: Rock Band. Regardless of the band, the Rock Band video game series is always fun. It’s just extra sweeter when it’s actually a band you truly enjoy. However, Pearl Jam is uping the ante. This time around instead of picking from the bands studio output they are using live concert versions from their 19+ years of touring. The best part is you get to vote which versions of the songs end up in the video game.

rock band and all affiliated games are the worst thing to happen to pop culture since fred durst. it makes true artists into “super-mario like” characters and pays homage to a series of shitty bands and and shitty songs. these games stunt any musical creativity that a young kid could potentially have, and ive seen it first hand when my 8 or 9 year old cousin told me , when i asked if he was still learning to play guitar, that he wasn’t because he’s got the “guitar hero” game. fucking sick. if you have kids , give them albums to get into music or take them to a live show, don’t pollute their brains with this shit. As for pearl jam, i guess eddie vedder needs more money after his 80$ per ticket ,ripoff, solo shows.

It’s a double edged sword for sure. While I do agree that it is teaching a younger kids the wrong idea about music and a lot of shitty bands have flagship games in the series (i.e. Green Day, Aerosmith) but Rock Band is still enjoyable as hell for an adult or “someone who knows better”. Beatles: Rock Band is an incredible entry in the series, especially since it seemed so unfathomable. Let’s just be thankful we haven’t seen an American Idol: Rock Band or a Ke$ha: Rock Band yet.

sounds like your cousin was just being a smidge lazy and didn’t have that much interest in learning to play the guitar any how at such a young age. this is also known as being a normal 9 year old. though i may not like all the music the games include, i would hardly say it “stunts musical creativity”. kids can learn rhythm, song structure, plus see the complexities of even the crappiest song broken down into it’s smaller instrumental parts. there are plenty of kids who might actually become interested in playing real music after being introduced to said games. i’m all for giving them albums and taking them to live shows, but the way i see it, most kids are going to be playing video games regardless of what i give them. why not make them music related? i had awful taste in music as a 9 year old (and some may say i still do) but i would have killed for a game like this growing up.
