Iron My Shirt, Bitch

Do you guys remember Martha Burk? No?

Martha Burk was the woman who protested outside the 2003 Masters Tournament because Augusta National didn’t allow women to hold memberships at the club (there are still no women members at Augusta, so clearly it was effective). Anyways, a bunch of other fuckfaces showed up to protest with her, and they had signs.

I’m not sure anyone was really expecting any hilariousness to come out of this, but god damn if I don’t want to shake this mans hand. Let’s revisit one of the greatest pictures in the history of photography and sexism.

Why exactly are they protesting? They have their own organization, the LPGA, and they could probably start their own club

Because Martha Burk was a rabble rouser and knew she would get a lot of publicity doing so. Especially since she was going to be showcasing a commercial, or some such, during the Masters. Pretty sure this was the year the Masters was entirely commercial free, ensuring that said commercial wasn’t shown. So, what did she accomplish? Nothing, other than giving every American male commercial-free coverage. Thanks.
