So now it all makes sense to me why Courtney Love threw a fit over Kurt Cobain being an unlockable character in Guitar Hero 5 (especially when the game developers, Harmonix issued a statement saying they have legal documentation that she agreed to it). Nirvana is releasing 2 albums in November – what a great way to stirrup public interest.
The first release will be a CD/DVD, live at Reading in 1992, from their famous English Festival appearance. The next release is a remaster of their underrated 1989 debut album, Bleach (done by original producer, Jack Endino). This album will also include a live concert from 1990 which has also received a sonic upgrade. Both albums are available on November 3rd.
The genius of this is that the Reading show is being released by Cobain’s estate and the Bleach reissue by their first label, Sub Pop. Sub Pop, devoid of the money the Cobain estate has is clearly piggy backing off the Reading release. Kudos to them, because in the end the consumers are the winners. We are getting two new releases by a band that has precious little material still left in the vaults.
